Booking 

How do I book?

You can book online using our online booking service, by telephone on 0121 554 7213 or in person by coming along to Hamstead Campus and speaking in person to a member of our team.

How do I pay for my booking?

A £150 reservation fee is payable when you book your room. This is fully refundable once your tenancy begins and will be deducted from your first rent instalment. This payment can be made by cheque or Credit/Debit card in person or if you are reserving online we accept payments via Paypal, a safe and secure 3 rd party  payment site.

Are there any other charges?

No. The only charge is the reservation fee which is refunded when your tenancy begins.

What does my rent include?

Your rent includes heating, hot water, electricity, contents insurance with Endsleigh and 10MB broadband, including IPTV.

Do you take a deposit?

No.

Do I have to pay Council Tax?

No. Registered, fulltime students are exempt from paying Council Tax. You will need to provide proof of your student status on application or within one week of starting your course. This should be handed to our team in the Accommodation Office. 

Can I book with my friends?

We have a range of accommodation available including 2 bed, and 5 bed flats.  If you book as a group, you are guaranteed to live with your friends, as long as you book early as our accommodation is allocated on a first come first serve basis.

If you want to live in the Hall, you may register up to 5 names of others that you would like to live near. We will do our best to accommodate your requirements but cannot guarantee you will be able to live near all those listed. The best way to make sure you will get to share with your friends is to book early.

Can I choose where I live at Hamstead Campus?

Hamstead Campus has many different types of accommodation on offer, if you have a preference as to where you would like to live please indicate this at the time of booking and we will do our best to accommodate you. Accommodation will be allocated on a first come first served basis so book early to avoid disappointment!

Can I apply if I am a part-time student?

All students who meet the following council tax exemption definition can apply to live at Hamstead Campus:

"You will usually be considered a full-time student for Council Tax purposes if you are enrolled to attend a course of education lasting for at least one academic or calendar year and which you are normally required to attend for at least 24 weeks out of the year and study for at least 21 hours per week during term time."

Can I apply if I am under 18?

Unfortunately we can only accept applications from students who will be aged 18 or over by the time they move into Hamstead Campus.

What happens after I have booked?

Once we have received your application and reservation fee, we will check the information received, credit check your guarantor (if applicable) and discuss with you any further information which is required.

Once our process has been completed, we will confirm in an email that you have a room reserved.  We will then contact you again with your tenancy agreement and moving in information.

Living

How long is my contract?

We offer the option of a 43 or 51 week contract.  A 5% discount is offered on 51 week contracts.

Can I move in before my course starts?

We use the summer to carry out refurbishments and repairs to all of our rooms but if your room is ready you may arrive early. Please contact us for more details.

Can I stay after my contract has expired?

You may extend your stay at Hamstead Campus into the summer months if you wish. Please visit the Accommodation Office for details.

How do I pay my rent?

We offer a 3% discount if you pay your rent in 1 annual instalment at the start of your tenancy. Alternatively you may pay by Direct Debit in 3 termly instalments. A guarantor would be required for this.

What is a guarantor?

A guarantor is someone, usually a family member, who agrees to pay your rent if you do not. They must be a UK resident, be in employment and have no CCJs registered against them.

Do I need a TV licence?

If you have a television in your room you will need a TV licence. You will also need a television licence if you watch IPTV (live TV) via your laptop or PC. There is a large television room in the Hall which is available for all students to use for which you will not need to purchase a TV licence. Is insurance included with my contract?

Yes. We provide insurance cover via Endsleigh Insurance Limited free of charge. This cover includes insurance against theft and fire damage. This cover can be extended to cover accidental damage if you wish. Details of how to register are provided when you move in.

What's in my room?

Your room is equipped with a bed with mattress cover and pillow, a wardrobe, a set of drawers, a desk, a chair, internal phone, lamp, bin and notice board as a minimum. We also provide curtains but you will need to bring your own bedding and towels.

Is there an internet connection in my room?

Yes. All rooms have a 10mb high speed connection. Up to three appliances may be connected to the internet per room. If you wish there is an option to upgrade to a 20mb connection for a charge of £60 for the year.  

What's the internal phone for?

The internal phone provides free calls to any of your friends living at Hamstead Campus.  It also allows you to call the Accommodation Office or Security if you have an emergency or query.

The internal phone does NOT accept external calls.

Can I smoke?

No. All accommodation at Hamstead Campus is non-smoking.

Can I bring a pet?

No.  Hamstead Campus is an animal free zone.

Will my room be cleaned?

No. It is your responsibility to keep your room clean and tidy.

In the Hall, kitchens, bathrooms and communal areas will be cleaned by our team of onsite cleaners. You must do your own washing up.

In the flats, the communal areas only will be cleaned by our team, the entire flat is the responsibility of the residents.

Is there a laundrette?

There is a 24 hour, coin operated laundrette on site with both washing machines and tumble driers. It is cleaned each day by our team of cleaners.  

Are there social facilities on site?

  • TV room - A television room is available for residents to enjoy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With a 50" screen and plenty of comfy sofa space we're sure you'll agree it's a great place to relax when you're not partying or studying.
  • Common room - The huge 19th Century common room located within the central area of Hamstead Hall is a great space for many things. Bookable 48 hours in advance for private use it is a great place for fund raising events or large study groups. It is also available at any other time for general use, perhaps you need more space for course work or want to chill out somewhere without the TV on, whatever you want to do the common room is available for you all day every day. The common room has a wifi hotspot to allow access to the internet.
  • Study area - A study area is provided to allow our residents some quiet space to work away from their rooms.  This has been provided in response to requests from our residents this year.
  • Sports Hall - The sports hall is located at the end of Hamstead Hall's north wing. With full size badminton and volley ball court markings, two table tennis tables and free use for all residents of Hamstead Campus, it's a great way to keep fit, for free! Simply sign out a key for access.
  • Hamstead Campus also has its own Student Union bar 'The Village Inn'.  The Village Inn has Sky TV and runs various special nights throughout the year with regular Wii and Quiz nights too.

Can I have overnight guests?

You may have 1 overnight guest stay in your room. You must sign in all guests/visitors at security where you will be handed a guest pass. This process is for your own safety so that we know just how many people are on Campus in the event of an emergency.

Is the accommodation single sex?

In Hamstead Hall the residents share bathrooms therefore the accommodation is single sex with males on the ground floor and females on the top floor.

All other flats are available to mixed sex groups.

Is parking available?

There are a limited number of parking spaces available at the Campus. There is an administration fee of £25 and spaces are allocated on a first come first served basis so book early to avoid disappointment.

Is there cycle storage on site?

There are two secure cycle stores on site. Please visit Accommodation Services to obtain a key at a cost of £5.

What are security like?

Our security team are here to provide a professional, friendly service to our residents and to provide reassurance when required. 

How do I report a problem with my room?

Our Accommodation Services team are onsite at Hamstead during office hours.  Please contact them using the internal phone or by dropping into the office near the main entrance to the hall.

Our onsite maintenance team can resolve most issues and you will be kept informed of progress until the issue is resolved.

If there is emergency outside office hours, please contact Security.
